Federal Programs

Title I, Part A

Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015, provides financial assistance to school districts to help ensure that all children, particularly those who are most academically at-risk, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on state academic standards.

Each Title I school also has a Parent Involvement Coordinator who supports families in promoting the academic achievement of students. Workshops and schoolwide events are offered to build the capacity of families to support their children academically. The local school’s Parent Resource Center offers resources and materials for families to checkout for use at home. Please visit the school’s website to view the dates and times of workshops and schoolwide events. All students, teachers, and families benefit from the supplemental resources and support provided by Title I.

McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth

The Homeless Education Program is funded by Title I through the Georgia Department of Education. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was reauthorized in 2001 under No Child Left Behind. It ensures educational rights and protection for children and youth experiencing homelessness. Educational stability for the homeless child is a key element of McKinney-Vento.

The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school. Under this program, Polk School District must ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, as other children and youth.

Migrant Education Program (MEP)

The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is a federally-funded program designed to support comprehensive educational programs for migrant children to help reduce the educational disruption and other problems that result from repeated moves.

Limited English Proficiency (LEP)

The English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement Act, as reauthorized by the 2001 amendments to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act is a federally funded educational program. The purpose of Title III is to ensure that limited English proficient (LEP) students, including immigrant children and youth, develop English proficiency and meet the same academic content and academic achievement standards that other children are expected to meet. Funds are used to implement language instruction educational programs designed to help LEP students achieve these standards.
