Polk Virtual Academy is a program designed for students who desire a non-traditional route to a high school diploma. The program will have an in-person and online component. Once enrolled, students must commit to a full semester in the program.

Polk Virtual Academy Overview and Admission Requirements 

• Students of Polk County Schools in grades 3-12 are eligible to request admission to Polk Virtual Academy.  Students not currently enrolled in Polk County Schools must apply for admission once accepted into PVA. 

• Eligibility to enroll in Polk Virtual Academy will be based upon space availability and students' previous academic performance and a school referral.  

• Polk Virtual Academy teachers will be available from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday for students that require supplemental instruction and/or tutoring.  

• Students will have 24/7 access to the Learning Management Systems and course content beyond normal hours of operation.  

• Students are encouraged to progress through the coursework at their own pace but must meet minimum pacing standards.  

• All students enrolled in Polk Virtual Academy will be required to take and pass any state or district-mandated assessments in a face to face setting. 

• Students in grades 3-5 must have a parent or guardian available at all times to proctor the virtual program.

• Students in grades 6-8 will need adult supervision while on the virtual program.

• Students not spending the required amount of time online each day will receive an unexcused absence and be subject to truancy procedures. 

Parent(s)/guardian(s) must meet with the principal of the school they are zoned to attend to be considered for program eligibility. Acceptance is not guaranteed, as spots are limited, and all applications will be evaluated for approval. Eligibility will be based upon a variety of factors, including attendance history, student motivation criteria, current and previous academic progress, etc.
