In January 2021, Dr. Katie Thomas was named the Polk School District Superintendent beginning June 1, 2021. Superintendent, Dr. Katie Thomas brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to her role, making her a driving force behind our district's commitment to excellence and innovation not only within our schools but throughout our community.
Dr. Thomas has been an integral part of the Polk School District family since 2006, when she first joined the district as the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Director. During her tenure in this role, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, spearheading initiatives to expand opportunities for students and enhance the quality of career-focused education in our district.
A product of her outstanding contributions and visionary leadership, Dr. Thomas was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Polk County College and Career Academy, where she continued to champion innovative approaches to education and workforce development.
In July 2018, Dr. Thomas assumed the pivotal role of Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Learning, where she continued to drive positive change and progress throughout our district. Her relentless dedication to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and student-centered learning has had a transformative impact.
As Superintendent, Dr. Thomas is committed to leading our district to new heights of success, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and personally. We are thankful for her visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and deep-rooted commitment to excellence for our students, schools, and community.
Dr. Thomas holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Georgia in Business Education, a Master’s and Educational Specialist Degree from Jacksonville State University in Administration and Leadership, and her Doctorate of Education from Liberty University in Educational Leadership. Prior to administration, Dr. Thomas was a Business teacher and Work-Based Learning Coordinator. She and her husband, Jonathan, have four children, Emily, Hannah, Logan and Reed and reside in Polk County.
