Based on conversations with our Local Emergency Management office regarding the potential for severe weather tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9, including flash flooding and high wind gusts, Polk School District is delaying school two hours to allow our bus drivers/riders and student drivers to navigate their daily routes in the daylight. We apologize for any inconvenience but will always make decisions in the best interest of our students and staff, keeping safety our first priority. Thank you for continuing to support us in our efforts. Time Change Examples include: If your bus picks you up at 6:45 on a normal school day, they will pick you up at 8:45. If you normally drop your child off at 7:15, you will drop off at 9:15. If the tardy bell rings at 7:35 daily, it will ring at 9:35. Dismissal times will remain the same.

Seniors that don't have senior privilege will report to the gym. We will be on an alternate schedule. Testing will take place in advisement which will last from 7:35 to 9:15. 1st period will begin at 9:20 and 2nd period will begin at 10:00. . Progress Reports and test scores went home today! All students should have received a progress report. Progress reports will have your student's PowerSchool information so you can monitor grades and attendance. Some students also received test score reports from last year's Georgia Milestones and this year's fall MAP test (MAP reports are on green and pink paper). PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN PINK AND GREEN MAP REPORTS (if applicable). Missing something? - Some 10th graders will not have a green Math MAP report. There was an error, and these will go home later. - Some students will not have a MAP report at all if they are: a senior, enrolled in AP/Dual Enrollment, or World Literature.

There have been many questions/comments related to changes in the rivalry game that is now scheduled for Thursday, August 17 at 7 p.m. In response, please note the following: 1. Why did PSD change the game? Polk School District did not make the decision to change the game. The Officials Association that is experiencing a major employee shortage, like many, informed us of the new date. 2. Why can we not play on Saturday? We asked if it was possible to play on Saturday. Unfortunately, that was not an option. 3. Can the game not start earlier? We asked to have the game begin earlier than 7:30. Officials that are available are traveling from all over the state which takes time; however, we were able to back it up 30 minutes to 7:00 p.m. 4. Do we know if any more games will be changed in the future? No, we were notified Sunday afternoon regarding this week’s change. As of now, they review games and personnel on a weekly basis. 5. We are aware that other teams have conflicting events already scheduled? Yes, we realize fall is a busy time. Again, we were not given any options related to other available dates. We realize there are many emotions and expectations that come with this annual event. We, like so many in the community, share in the disappointment that the game has been moved to Thursday. It is an inconvenience related to all that has been planned in anticipation of the big game and regularly scheduled events (spirit days, pep rallies, school picture days, etc.) However, at the end of the day, we have many hard-working players, cheerleaders, and band members that deserve the opportunity to enjoy this game despite all the factors that we cannot control.
